Archaeologists from Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire have been working on a regional research framework for some time. The first part, the resource assessment, has now been published, and its publication coincides with a major initiative from English Heritage who are advocating the creation of research frameworks across the country.
The resource assessment has resulted from the region's long tradition of co-operative ventures and has received support from English Heritage and the Scole Archaeological Committee, as well as from the many archaeologists working in the region.
The background to the resource assessment and the regional research framework is explained by David Buckley in Chapter 1. The current state of knowledge is then reviewed, period by period, in the following chapters. The ongoing process of discussion and consultation is intended to lead to a regional research agenda and strategy (currently under discussion), and ultimately to individual research projects.
