Baldwinholme Farmhouse

Recording in progress at Baldwinholme Farmhouse, a longhouse now dendrochronologically dated to 1572, in the Solway Valley near Carlisle. This is one of an unusual group of mud-walled buildings in the area. Traditionally thought to date from the later seventeenth to the early nineteenth century, research by Nina Jennings has established that such buildings were still being built at the start of the twentieth century and that the earliest known surviving example dates from the fifteenth century (photo: Nina Jennings)
