Presents the results of the latest stage of a long term series of observations and excavations of two earthworks built on chalk at Overton Down near Avebury and on acid heathland at Wareham in Dorset, in 1960 to attempt to simulate the conditions encountered in the excavations of ancient earthworks and thus increase our understanding of the evidence recovered.
