The post-excavation programme has resumed on the Battle Abbey archive. Archaeological work centred on the Courthouse element of the Abbey Gatehouse range, and included evaluation, building recording, and full scale excavation. In addition, a research programme was carried out during the 1993 season recording all deposits and features in 3 dimensions for display on a digital ground model (DGM) using AutoCAD. This data, combined with the digitised elevations of the courthouse, provides the basis for an integrated structural and stratigraphic model of the courthouse and its interior.
The project plays a central role in the CAS development of digital recording and dissemination, and it is proposed that the Battle Abbey record and report should be our first publication on CD-ROM. Following record completion during 1996-97, all aspects of the project will be assessed and a project design, incorporating a strategy for digital publication, will be formulated.
