Another need identified in Mellor's survey was for information on the variety of scientific techniques that can be applied to fired clay, which required compilation in a single publication in a form suitable for those with a limited scientific knowledge, but who need to able to assess and select from the various techniques available. The resulting Handbook of scientific resources by Katherine Barclay has now been completed and will be published in conjunction with Oxbow Books in 1997.
