4.14.1c Radiocarbon dating

Radiocarbon dating: collaboration with three radiocarbon laboratories continues, with 185 samples submitted for analysis from 27 sites. An ambitious dating programme has started for the publication of the series of Neolithic monuments on Hambledon Hill, combining rigorous sample selection from the 1970s excavations with new scientific techniques, such as small sample high-precision measurement and mathematical modelling of the chronology of the sites. The routine application of such statistical modelling and stratified sampling approaches is beginning to provide more precise estimates of the date of archaeological sites and events.
