Medieval rural settlement

Two new discoveries provide rare evidence of medieval remains in the district south of the City of London, historically part of Kent and Surrey. An isolated 15th-century timber building was excavated at the former Elmwood Playing Fields at Hackbridge, whilst a similar 13th-century site was excavated at the former Walsingham School, near St Paul Cray. Both sites have provided a ground plan of a building, hearths, and substantial artefact assemblages.
