Excavation within a middle Iron age defended settlement recovered a modest quantity of evidence of metalworking. This included crucible fragments from copper alloy melting and slag diagnostic of iron smithing.

Assessment of this Roman, late Saxon and Medieval urban site showed ironsmithing debris to predominate, although some slag from the smelting of iron was also identified. Limited lead or lead alloy casting and working was attested. Further examination of the entire iron and lead assemblage is recommended. Copper alloy working evidence was not assessed in this report.
